Well I think this photo I took of my granddaughter last night is a good metaphor for today. Except I think she's a bit more confident about jumping into the water than I am about heading off into the wild blue yonder. But here we go anyway!! I'll keep updating this page as the day progresses as I am going to have LOADS of waiting time at airports.
For now, I'm off to walk on the treadmill for a bit, stretch out the muscles, calm the nerves.
Okay, it's about 2 hours later and I'm sitting in the departure lounge, trying to cool down after a frantic check-in. Good thing I'm so obsessive about getting to the airport early. First thing was when I went to pull out my passport for the electronic check-in, I couldn't find it. Went through my bag three times before I found it in a pocket I didn't know existed. Then I saw that they had me in a middle aisle, middle seat for the flight to Amsterdam. Ummm--no I don't think I want that. So paid $50 for an upgrade to a better seat. Cheaper than flying Business Class I guess :)
Then I went over to give in my bag. Oh great, my luggage was 13 pounds overweight! I've never had THAT happen before. Guess I should have stuck with my original plan of using 2 suitcases instead of buying one in Sierra Vista and transferring everything into that one. I had a choice of either paying $90 or going and buying another bag. So I went and found a bag for $40 and bought that. Shades of Heathrow two years ago when I had to buy the backpack! Anyway, there I was stuffing clothes and things into the second bag. If things go on this way I'll have used up my entire travel budget before I even get to England.
Anyway, I am now sitting down telling myself--breathe, breathe, breathe :)
